  • Hunting Woodcock at the Inukshuk Outfitter!

The American Woodcock is a little know migratory species to Québec small game hunters, which is one of the reasons its population is so abundant. It returns to Québec each Spring from the American South-East to breed and leaves again at the first signs of cold in October. The birds usually return each year to the place they were born. The American Woodcock is a stocky bird whose feathers blend in almost completely with the fallen leaves in the undergrowth. The male and female have an identical colouring. Strangely, the female is larger than the male, weighing an average 180 grams in the Fall, compared to the male's 140 grams. The Woodcock feeds early in the day and again late in the day. Worms constitute 60% of its diet, to which it adds insects and other living creatures it finds in the forest litter (30%) as well as some vegetation, mostly seeds (10%). An adult bird's daily intake of worms can reach about half its bodyweight.

Woodcock hunting is done right on the Inukshuk Outfitter's territories between the end of September and the end of October, with every week bringing its lot of challenges and loads of birds.
